During plastic extrusion, filters are used to remove paper, sand, metal particles and other contaminants from the molten plastic. For effective filtration, an extrusion filter may consist of several layers of woven metal mesh. Each layer fulfils its own specific function within the filter assembly.
Royal Dinxperlo manufactures the individual mesh sections and can join them together using spot welding. This results in a complete, ready-to-use extrusion filter in which the various layers are held firmly together. The dimensions, mesh specifications and composition are tailored to the extrusion plant and the desired level of filtration.
A multi-layer extrusion filter may consist of different types of woven mesh. The individual layers must remain correctly aligned with one another during the installation and use of the filter. If the layers shift or become loose, this can complicate the installation of the filter and affect the performance of the filter pack.
Joining finely woven mesh requires precision. The welded joint must secure the different layers sufficiently, without unnecessarily affecting the filter surface. Therefore, the position of the weld points and the welding technique used must be carefully tailored to the shape, dimensions and construction of the extrusion filter.

Production begins with the selection of the correct woven wire mesh. Depending on the application, we combine multiple layers of mesh with different mesh sizes and wire diameters. This creates a filter assembly that provides both the necessary support and the desired filtration fineness. We then join the individual layers together by welding.
First, we cut the mesh layers to the desired shape and dimensions. Round, oval, rectangular and other customer-specific shapes are possible. We then position the layers precisely on top of one another. This creates a filter assembly that is tailored to the extrusion process and the required filtration.
Once we have correctly positioned the various mesh layers, we join them using spot welding. With this welding technique, we create small, strong joints between the layers at specific points.
The spot welds hold the filter assembly together during transport, installation and use. At the same time, the majority of the mesh surface remains available for the flow and filtration of the molten plastic. This results in a practical, easy-to-handle filter assembly that fits into the extrusion plant as a single complete component.
Royal Dinxperlo specialises in welding, plasma welding and spot welding of woven mesh. This enables us to tailor the welded joint precisely to the mesh used and the technical requirements of the application. Furthermore, when determining the welding points, we take into account both the strength and the available filter surface area.
