Within the chemical and refining industries, flammable gases and liquids are transported through pipes and plant. If these substances ignite, a flame can spread further through the system. This can have serious consequences for the plant, the production process and the safety of staff.
Royal Dinxperlo manufactures metal mesh for flame shielding and flame arresters. The mesh is incorporated into flame arresters, which allow for controlled passage whilst helping to prevent a flame from spreading to other parts of the plant.

In installations containing flammable substances, ignition can cause a flame front. This flame front can then spread through pipes or other passages. Without the correct safety measures, the flame may reach another part of the system, where it could reignite flammable gases or vapours.
A flame arrestor must therefore effectively slow down and extinguish the flame. At the same time, the required flow rate must be maintained. This requires precisely manufactured passages with consistent and reproducible dimensions. Even minor deviations can affect the performance of the final flame arrester. That is why the dimensions and accuracy of the metal mesh play a crucial role.
In flame arresters, metal mesh forms a key component. By spiralling metal strips, fine and reproducible slits are created. When a flame passes through these narrow passages, the metal absorbs heat. This cools the flame front, thereby dampening the flame.
At the same time, the open structure ensures that the medium can continue to flow through the flame arrester. The precisely formed gaps then help to control the passage of the flame. A consistent wire diameter, aperture and mesh structure are therefore essential for a reliable and reproducible solution.
Flame arresters are often used in conditions where corrosion and mechanical stress play a significant role. That is why choosing the right material is of the utmost importance. Royal Dinxperlo manufactures metal mesh for flame arresters in aluminium 5056 and stainless steel AISI 316L and AISI 316Ti.
Thanks to these different materials, the mesh can be precisely tailored to the conditions within the installation. Furthermore, these materials offer suitable properties for demanding industrial applications. For example, the wire mesh provides a reliable basis for flame protection in sectors such as the chemical industry and refining.
Royal Dinxperlo has extensive experience in the production of precision metal mesh for technical and industrial safety solutions. This enables us to support manufacturers of flame arresters in finding a suitable design.
We tailor the mesh to the required mesh size, choice of material and further processing. Furthermore, our bespoke options allow for the precise specification of the wire diameter, mesh size and width. This ensures the mesh meets the technical requirements of the flame arrester. In addition, our European production facilities and technical expertise guarantee consistent quality and high delivery reliability.
