Precision laser cutting of wire mesh

During the laser cutting process, Royal Dinxperlo uses a concentrated laser beam to cut the wire mesh along a predetermined contour. The cutting movement is controlled by digital software. This enables us to produce both simple and complex shapes with precision.

This flexibility makes laser cutting suitable for round, rectangular and irregularly shaped wire mesh parts. In addition, we can incorporate cut-outs and other product-specific contours directly into the shape. In this way, we prepare the wire mesh precisely for assembly or further processing.

Royal Dinxperlo has many years’ experience in laser cutting both woven and welded mesh. This enables us to apply the technique to single items, prototypes and larger production runs.

Applications of laser-cut mesh

Manufacturers use laser-cut metal mesh for a wide range of industrial and technical applications. For example, it is suitable for:

  • Filter and sieve components.
  • Round filter discs and support discs.
  • Mesh components for machine parts.
  • Protective grilles and shields.
  • Components for air and liquid filtration.
  • Mesh components for technical assemblies.
  • Prototypes and small production runs.
  • Customised shapes with cut-outs or complex contours.

The function of the component and its design ultimately determine the required shape. That is why we tailor the contour and dimensions to the specific technical application in which the customer intends to use the mesh.

From prototype to larger production runs

Laser cutting is particularly suitable for projects where flexibility is key. As the contour is controlled by digital software, we can produce new or customised shapes without having to develop separate punching tools for each version.

This makes laser cutting a suitable technique for prototypes, product development and smaller batches. Once the product specifications are finalised, we can produce the same shape accurately and consistently in larger quantities. In this way, Royal Dinxperlo supports customers from the initial test version right through to series production.

Following laser cutting, we can also further shape, weld or assemble the mesh. By carefully coordinating these various processes, we produce a fully bespoke component.

Laser cutting to customer specifications

For every order, we assess the combination of the selected mesh and the desired shape. In doing so, we take into account, amongst other things:

  • Woven or welded mesh.
  • The material and wire diameter.
  • The mesh size and weave structure.
  • The required external dimensions.
  • Complex shapes and cut-outs.
  • The required tolerances.
  • The production volume.
  • Any subsequent processing.

First, we determine which mesh is best suited to the application. We then tailor the contour, dimensions and laser cutting settings accordingly. This ensures that not only the cut-out shape, but the entire mesh component is suited to the technical application.
